Hacienda Mucuyché

A stone channel joining two cenotes

Hacienda Mucuyché

In the henequen years, Mucuyché was among the estates that moved the most money in Yucatán, and it still shows: the arches, the machinery and the stone walls are all standing. But what people remember is not that — it is that its two cenotes are connected. You get from Carlota to Azul Maya through a channel, swimming between rock walls that rise on either side, or walking the stone edge if you would rather stay dry. Entry to the estate and to both cenotes is already paid.

Questions

Why is lunch not included?

Because the restaurant works à la carte and charges for what you order. That way nobody pays for a buffet they will not finish.

Is reef-safe sunscreen mandatory?

Yes, and they check at the door: you shower before going in. With ordinary sunscreen they will not let you in the water.

Is the channel deep?

Yes, which is why the life vest is not optional. And if you would rather not swim it, a stone path along one side reaches the second cenote just the same.
