What the day is like
Isla Columpios is not an island: it is sandbanks and mangrove off Chuburná Puerto, where the sea forms natural pools half a metre deep. There are swings and hammocks planted right in the water, and no hotel or big restaurant, which is exactly the point. You can only get there by boat. Then the Chuburná dunes and a free afternoon in Progreso, with its seven-kilometre pier.
