Isla Mujeres

Playa Norte, which makes every list for a reason

Isla Mujeres

Playa Norte has sand that does not burn and water still at knee height fifty metres out. You get there by boat from Puerto Juárez, with a snorkelling stop at the El Meco reef. Basic gear is included, as is the buffet lunch at the beach club and the use of loungers. On the island the rest of the time is yours: eat, walk the town, or just lie there.

Questions

What if I cannot swim or do not want to snorkel?

You can stay on board while the group goes in. Vests are mandatory for anyone entering the water.

Do I need a passport?

No. Isla Mujeres is Mexican territory; any official ID is enough.

How long are we actually on the island?

Around seven hours counting the sailing and the snorkelling. That is the long stretch of the day; the rest is driving.
