Tulum and the Casa Tortuga cenotes
The only Maya city built facing the Caribbean
Tulum is the exception: while the other Maya cities sit deep in the jungle, this one was raised on a cliff above the sea. El Castillo served as a lighthouse for navigators, and there is a white sand beach below. After the guided walk, the Casa Tortuga park: four different cenotes — open, semi-open and cave with stalactites — with changing rooms and trails. Cenote entry and lunch are included.

Questions
Can you go down to the Tulum beach?
It depends on the day: access to the little beach under the ruins opens and closes depending on the tide and the state of the cliff. Ask the guide on arrival.
How much is the Tulum entrance?
It changes often because it bundles several fees. The guide gives you the exact amount on the way; bring it in cash.
Is there shade at the site?
Very little. It is an open site on a cliff and by mid-morning it is fierce. A hat and water are not optional.
