The three price factors
- The destination. A day on the north coast, half an hour from Mérida, doesn't cost the same as a trip to Isla Mujeres or Holbox, where the driver works from before dawn until night.
- Group size. Mary Tours transfers have tiered per-van rates: for groups of up to 3, up to 6, up to 13 and up to 20 passengers.

When a transfer works out cheaper
Because the price is per van, the more people share the vehicle (within its capacity), the less each one pays. For a group of six or eight who don't need a guide, a transfer is often very competitive against a per-person tour. For two people, though, a tour is almost always the better deal.
